Vintage Pear Cut Garnet 18K Gold Ring, 40s/50s

This ring was made between the 40s and 50s, and stands out both for its beautiful setting and for the central stone that decorates it.
The latter is a garnet, already particularly fascinating on its own, thanks to the dark red color that characterizes it and which hides lighter reflections if looked at from the right angles; but here the charm is increased by the chosen cut, namely the teardrop one, a cut that is rarely found when talking about these stones. 
The setting that holds it is not open but rather, we find a thick bezel that closes it completely, even on the back, adding an aura of mystery to the ring; moreover, on the inside it extends in some points with some kind of pointed claws, which hold the garnet even more firmly.
The two shoulders touch the two ends of the garnet drop, so instead of finding them on both sides we find them above and below, thus creating that effect that we find in the "Toi et moi" or in the "Contrarié" rings. 
The whole frame is in 18K yellow gold.
