Vintage 18K yellow gold ring decorated with a shield and two mermaids, 60s

I think this ring would have been the perfect loot for a pirate, kept jealously hidden in his chest or worn and shown off with pride.

The charm of this jewel is due to a whole series of characteristics that make it special and absolutely not to be missed!

First of all, it was made with 18K yellow gold, the one and only material that composes it, shaped in an incredible way to be able to decorate it. 
In the center we find a shield, with a smooth surface and a rather flat profile; the fact that this shape was chosen makes me believe that the ring was born along the lines of signet rings, a type of jewelery that combined aesthetics with practicality, being able to engrave a coat of arms on the surface of the stone or the central gold part or initials that can then be used as a seal to be imprinted on the sealing wax. 
And we come to the strong point, namely the sides of the ring: here we find ourselves in front of two wonderful mermaids, who hold the shield with both hands; they were depicted in their entirety, from head to tail, with their long hair loose in the wind and leaving the face free, the chest with the outlined shapes, down to the bust and finally to the tail.

This ring is perfect for both a female and male hand, and is the perfect jewel if you are looking for something unique that is not just an accessory, but also something to jealously guard (just like a pirate's treasure! ); perfect to be worn every day, it can also undoubtedly be a special gift for an equally special person to surprise.
