Antique gold men's ring with engraving, late 800th century

Add to Wishlist

Antique chevalier men's ring, dating from the late nineteenth century, with engraved initials.
The chevalier ring is a ring that was originally created with a use that went beyond simple ornament: the incisions that were made on the flat surface of the ring were in fact generally initials or coats of arms of important families, therefore useful for pressing the wax and initialing the letters.
This type of ring was therefore used to identify houses and noble families, thanks to the coats of arms or initials that were engraved on it.
Over time these rings have begun to change, in appearance and use: the deep incisions aimed at acting as a "marker" (social and practical), have begun to be more and more superficial, flattening and becoming a simple ornament (albeit maintaining the ability to show belonging to a particular family). The ring that we present today is therefore the result of this process: made entirely of yellow gold, it has the letters A and S engraved, superimposed on each other. The central part is modeled in 18K gold, while the shoulders are in low gold, and have an additional beautiful engraved decoration.
